The NHS workforce director-general Clare Chapman visited Bradford to start a mentoring scheme which will help people from minority communities further their careers in the NHS.
She met staff from across the region at the Promote NHS event at the Mumtaz Restaurant in Great Horton Road.
The scheme will see key NHS executives and managers mentoring staff from black and minority ethnic communities who are under-represented in the organisation.
The project is being funded by the Learning and Skills Council and run by Bradford-based ATL.
Simon Morritt, the chief executive of NHS Bradford and Airedale, will be one of 24 mentors locally.
He said: “It’s a win-win situation for both the mentors and the BME staff as they can benefit from each other’s experiences and widen their perspective on many issues.”
